Here’s some information about the tournament site provided by our Challenge B (The Solar Stage) Regional Challenge Master, Harry Hancock:

“After looking at the site recently I believe that we will be able to start each performance with full room lighting and then dim the lights when asked to by the team. The room will not be totally dark, but it will be quite dim.”

Appraiser Training

Remember that Appraiser Training is coming up this weekend! on Saturday, February 4th, every team’s appraiser should attend training at Deep Run High School from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Please remind your appraisers of this upcoming mandatory event!

Also, for any high school seniors planning on applying for a DI Virginia scholarship, the deadline is February 12.

Advancing to States

The DI Virginia Affiliate Board is pleased to announce that more teams than ever will be moving on to the Affiliate Tournament in Crozet this year!

First and second place teams from each challenge and level will be invited to compete at the Affiliate Tournament on March 31, 2012. If there is more than one challenge site for the same challenge and level, first and second place teams from BOTH sites will be advanced to the Affiliate Tournament. If there are between 10 and 19 teams competing at the same level at a single competition site, first, second, and third place teams will be advanced. If there are 20 or more teams competing at the same level at a single competition site, first, second, third, and fourth place teams will be advanced. There will also be one wild card team from each region advanced to the Affiliate Tournament.

In addition, every Rising Stars Team is invited to present at the Virginia Starry Showcase. This will give the team the chance to attend an affiliate tournament without the pressure of competing.

The Affiliate Board is thrilled to be giving additional teams the opportunity to experience the Affiliate Tournament in 2012!

Remember to turn in your registration forms and checks for the Regional Tournament to your school contact by January 13th (Friday).

Destination ImagiNation has been changing lives for 29 years. With more than a million alumni and 38,000 volunteers worldwide, it has made a huge impact on many kids and adults. So tell us how DI has changed your life.
We want to hear about the late nights practicing, about your first tournament with your team, life-long friendships, and problems solved. Be creative and tell us something great!
This contest is open to ALL Destination Imagination team members, Team Managers & volunteers. The winning team member or Team Manager will receive free passes to Global Finals 2012 for their whole team. If you are a volunteer without a team, your winning entry will allow you to send the team of your choice to Global Finals.
All you have to do is produce a 60-second video that tells us your story!

Alumni Volunteer Opportunities

Great news, DIVA alumni! This year, we’re pleased to announce that some DI Alumni will be allowed to appraise at regional and affiliate tournaments in Virginia.

This year, high school DI alumni may appraise in a non-scoring position if they meet the following requirements:

They have competed in a DI tournament before.
They are not competing in a DI tournament this year.
They are a high school senior.
They are at least 17 years old.
